Question 3

“The boy didn’t know what a person’s “Personal Legend” was. “It’s what you have always wanted to accomplish. (p.21)” Santiago met an old man in a village courtyard who began to converse with him. Irritably, the boy continued their conversation and discovered this old man was the King of Salem. Even the boy didn’t know the location of Salem, Santiago still realized his power when the old king read his mind and presented him with the theory that everyone has their own “Personal Legend.” A personal legend is the quest every human has when they are born. It’s the “desire that originated in the soul of the universe; your mission on Earth.” The essential aspect of a Personal Legend is the mixture of desire and fate that has been brought upon a human. But from standpoint, fate is merely an abstract thought and nothing more. There are numerous details of fate that could only be explained from religious presumptions; for example how could it be a human’s Personal Legend to become enslaved and die of hard labor, when another’s is to rule a great empire. Ones life is only determined by their own decisions and actions, not a far off soul that creates your life before you have yourself. The overall definition of ones Personal Legend is not the verdict of a godly being, but the thirst for your final goal.

  1. I enjoyed how the first sentence is strait and to the point just like the first sentence of the book. I liked how you said our personal legend is a mix of fate and desire... I agree with that completely. I like the way you ended it "but the thirst for you final goal."

  2. Super duper awesome. I enjoyed the word choice, hehe, but I also really liked how you emphasized that people create their Personal Legends and that know one has written it before you are who you are, I agree completely. Liked the last sentence as well.

  3. I agree also. I think your statment on fate and it being abstract is good. I like the quote from the book. I also like the sentance of how one Personl Legened could be slave and labor while the other can be King. I also like the last sentance

  4. Niceee! I like the sentence about one person choosing to die of hard labor and the other to rule; life shouldnt be planned out before you live it. It had good voice, great empathy and all around a great post.

  5. I agree with evything you said. I like how you mentioned that fate is an abstact thought in our minds. I also agree with how you say our life is determined by what we do, not some soul before we are born. I do think personal legends are what you create not set in stone before you are born. You did a great job explaining it, making it a great answer.
