Question 4-How does desire and fate play a role in pages 11-32 ?:
In the book the old king says that people belive that at one point in there life they loose control of their lives and say fate will lead them. But he calls this the worlds greatest lie. He says that people make their own destinies. I agree. I dont really belive in fate. I believe we choose our own destiny. In every moment in your life you have a choice. To belive that some mystical energy controls your life while you sit in the coner is absurd. Nothing is bindingz you to do what you do. You could get up right now and walk out the room and change you future. I wouldnt advice walking out of class but this is just an example on how we make our own life. Our decisions may lead to a good future or a bad one,but we made it, not some gypsy magic.
As for desire in the book the boy has many desires, his desire to see the girl with raven hair, a desire to go to the pyramids, a desire to travel. In the book desire is described as stepping stones towards ones personal legend."there was nothing to hold him back except himself. The sheep, the merchants daughter, and the feilds of andalusia were only steps along the way to his Personal Legend." pg 28 So the boy lets go of his desires and decides to go to the pyramids. He sells his sheep and after meeting with the old king is ready to go.

I agree with your post concerning fate. It is important for people to understand that you must take action in order for things to happen in yoru favor. Do you believe that fate plays a role if you are to work hard enough for something? Is the king's appearance not an example of fate interfering?
ReplyDeleteI do somewhat agree with your ideas about fate. I too believe that you have to make your own destiny and that no one is going to make it for you. However I strongly believe in Karma. I believe that if you do something good, you will get something good in return. Luck I think is also a part of everything because in order to reach some goals you do need to catch a break or get some good fortune. I definitely agree about desire being a stepping stone because desires lead people in the right direction towards their purpose in life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said on how you make your own decisions in life but I still think that there is always fate. When the boy goes to the shepard he donst know any thing about her he dosnt even know shes there so it was fate that he met her. he didnt know he was going to meet a king it was fate that they met and now the boy is going on a journey because of a person he met out of fate. It was fate that the boy had the dream of the treasure and went to the gypsy and learned that the treasure is real. Yes you can make your own decisions but fate will always play a role in your life.
ReplyDeleteI mostly agree with your look on fate. I do think that the idea of some magic is making us go to school every morning is completly "absurd". I also agree that we control our future and we can choose any path we want. But I also belive our actions start chain reactions. Like if we screamed at our parents, we get in trouble, making us miss the movie that night, making your friends tell you how great it was and that you missed out. I also belive that this isn't nesicarily fate. We still choose our action to scream at our parents and we choose what to say when our friends tell us to miss out, but because we screamed at our parents this whole thing started.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we choose our own destinys. We are the ones who make the decsions to do something that will control our futur. If we dont make the right decsion, or if we regret the one we made, its our own fault. However i do believe that fate does exist. Without it a lot of things wouldnt happen. I also agree with rachel that luck is important as well. Sometimes everyone needs a little push in the right direction and fate and luck help us with completing our destiney. We are the ones who make the decsions in our life, although we do get some help from other forces.
