Desire and fate play huge roles in pages 11-32. First, when his reoccurring dreams of him going to the Egyptian pyramids and finding his treasure, he then goes to a gypsy to interpret them, then she tells him that "dreams are the language of god...." (pg. 14) and tells him that he must go and find the treasure because the dream is very real, this gives the boy desire to go and find it sense the treasure will make him a very rich man. Second, when the king of Salem talks to him about finding his personal legend and how it is our obligation to be put on earth and fulfill our journey, he also explains how when humans "lose control of themselves fate takes over"(pg. 18) yet, that is the world's greatest lie. the old man also explains,: "whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. it's your mission on earth." (pg 22)
