Question #4

After having a strange dream, Santiago decides to go to a gypsy so he will be able to understand it better. The gypsy listens carefully as he tells her about his dream, and then tells him that “dreams are the language of god.”
She tells the boy that his dreams are telling him to go to Egypt to find treasure. Deciding not to charge him yet, the gypsy says if Santiago finds the treasure, he will give her one-tenth of it.
I believe that his fate is to go to Egypt to find the treasure because the gypsy says that “dreams are the language of god.” Therefore God, who decides people’s fate, is telling Santiago that he should go to Egypt and find the treasure.
After meeting the “King of Salem” and giving him one-tenth of his sheep, he tells Santiago how to find the treasure. His desires are telling him to go; although, they are also telling him to continue his normal life with his sheep and to go and see the merchant’s daughter. In the end Santiago follows his personal legend and fate, and goes to Egypt.

  1. I agree with you Kloe about the the desires. He does desires to go out for adventure but also desires to stay with his sheep. However to me if your desire is to do something fate is not telling you to do, then you should go with your desires not fate. The boy desires to travel but not leave his sheep. Fate is telling him to leave his sheep and go out on adventure.

  2. I like how you tied the "dreams are the language of god" with his fate. It makes more sense that his fate is connected with god. You could also say that his fate is in Egypt because the pyramids also tie in with god. They are pointed towards the heavens. You should talk more about his desire.

  3. I like the way you supported your explanations.I also like how you mentioned that "dreams are the language of God" this really ties in what the gypsy was trying to tell him. I also agree with Keenan on how the boy desires to travel and not to leave his sheep. and his fate is telling him to leave.

  4. I love that you said "dreams are the language of god." That helps many go after what they desire, and what they want. Good job! :)

  5. You did a great job explaining fate and desire. I like how you explained how he followed his fate over his desire nd left his sheep to fulfill his personal legend. I also beleive taht everyone has a personal legend and it is their own fate to make it happen. I also liked how you explained dreams as the language of god.
