Question #3

3. Summarize the discussion between the king and the boy regarding Personal Legends. Do you believe that there is such a thing as Personal Legends?
The king begins by explaining what a Personal Legend is “it’s what you’ve always wanted to accomplish” (pg 21). He explains that when people are young they know what their personal legend is supposed to be but as they grow older they give up their dreams. The Personal Legend is the person’s purpose in life, what they were born to do; their destiny. The old man tells of the man who put off traveling, his personal legend, to become a baker. The baker had hoped that he would eventually get around to traveling but he never did. What people think, has become more important than succeeding their own personal legends. “People learn, early in their lives, what is their reason for being…Maybe that’s why they give up on it so early, too.” (pg 24). The old man has approached the boy because the boy is about to give up his personal legend.
Personally I believe in Personal Legends. Everyone on this planet was born to do something. When they are a child their dream seems probable but as they grow older they realize that it is not likely to occur. They give up too soon, if they were to try a little harder or longer they shall succeed in their dream. Most people give up their Legend before they even give it a chance. If you know what your Personal Legend is, don’t give it up until you have succeeded.

  2. I agree 100 percent. I think everyone has their own personal legend. Some might not know it but one day they will. We just relize our personal legends later or sooner than others

  3. I like how you included quotes to back up your reasons and that you have good supporting details. I agree with you that there is such thing as Personal Legends and that people know what they are, they just don't fulfill them. The only thing you should work on is sentence fluency, but everything else is just perfect.

  5. I agree with the the book and what you siad about personal legends in life. I do think everyone has a goal they always want to accomplish and dream of doing it as a child but forget about as an adult. I think that they also dont try to accomplish it because they think it is stupid. I agree on how how if you try a little harder you will accomplish it. I also agree with how if you know what you want to accomplish in life then you cant give it up until you succede.

  6. I agree with you about everything you said Jessie. People give up on their dreams so easily because they don't realize that they are their personal legends. Young people are so confident about chasing their dreams and achieving their legends. But as they grow older, they seem to forget what they were born to do. And even some people who do chase their dreams end up giving up.

  7. Yes, i agree on everything you said! So many movies depict this very senario, a old man meets a young boy and renews his child hood dreams, their personal destiny. then he is a whole new person, better in every way. I think that people need to drive to succede their personal legends and never stop focusing on that dream

  8. I certainly agree with you when you say that as people age their Personal Legends fade. It is really hard to maintain personal desires when the realities of life seem so harsh. Adolescence is a time when our motivatons become convoluted and hard ti understand. This causes a lot of people to give up on their Personal Legends. Even in today's society where each person has the opportunity to decide their future, people don't fullfill their legends.

  9. I definately agree with everything you and the book said. I am psoitive that everyone has their own personal legend and that far too many people give up on it too early. Great job summarizing the story and explaining it. I am sure many people can relate to the baker. Without the kings's help I doubt Santiago would have ever fulfilled his personal legend.

  11. You are absolutely right. I agree with you on the part where you said everyone is born to do something. When we are kids everything seems possible. You believe that your personal legend can be achieved because there is really nothing stopping you. But as you get older you see the possibilities of it not becoming a reality so you give up. It's quite sad i think, but you do get a good point across.
