Question 2

The king tells Santiago a story about a boy who walks into a castle seeking a wise man to tell him the secret of happiness, but instead of the man, he sees people talking in a courtyard, and feasting on a banquet of delicious food. When he finally notices the wise man, he is told he will have to wait two hours for the wise man to have time enough to speak to him. When the boy returns after two hours, he explains his quest for happiness, the king tells him to explore the castle for 2 more hours. But with a catch; the boy is required to carry a spoon containing 2 drops of oil around with him, without spilling it. When the boy returns, the wise man asks him if he noticed his beautiful curtains and intricate floors. The boys couldn't tell him because he was too busy watching the spoon. So the wise man tells him to do it again, but this time, take notice of my castle. The boy returns, without any oil in the spoon, but could tell the wise man all the deatils of his castle. And finally, the wise man tells the boy the secret of happiness, "The secret of happiness is to see al the marvels of the world, and never forget the drops of iol on the spoon.
The king tells him this story because he wants Santiago to always pay attention to his friends and companions, his sheep, no matter what. That, through hard times and struggle, he should keep moving, and also pay attention to his surroundings. The king knew that boy would soon be faced with a challenge that he would have to overcome, and that acknowleging his surroundings, could help him find his Personal Legend.
I believe that to be true, that just understanding our surroundings and constantly enjoying and apreciating them, will lead us to happiness. The little things, like riding the bike instead of driving, or joining the environmental club, or hanging out with freinds after school, and all the while, focusing on schoolwork and goals.
