question 2

Why does the king tell his story to be the boy before leaving? What relevance does it have to your life and Santiago’s?

The king tells his story to the boy because he is teaching him a lesson. The point of the story is to teach him to pay attention to everything but also to be careful. The oil represents what he needs to keep close to him and what to stay focused on. The castle represents the beauty of the world. The man is telling Santiago to find a balance between the two, to pay attention to what is around him and take in the beauty, but also to stay focused on his goal, (the oil in the spoon) finding the gold in the pryamids, and achieving his personal legend. The story is relevant to me and i think to everyone because it is telling us to keep on going to reach or goals and make our dreams come true, to keep an eye on them. However the man is also saying that just because we have goals we also have to have see other things. In other words the journey is just as important as the destination itself. So when we reach our destination we should not only have a full spoon but also we should have seen the obsatciles that we over came and the little goals that we achieved.

  1. I agree with Gina. To see the world we must pay attention to everything along with the important things. The little things may matter but its the bigger picture we want to understand. At the end of our adventures we don't want to come backwith soemthing lost we want to come back with something gained. She walso says that this story is relavent to us in the sense that we should reach opur dreams but still have an open mind.

  2. I do agree with some points you mentioned. I do believe that the castle is the beaty of the world and how we all need to learn this lesson. But I think that the oil is what you need to remember, and what you wanty to do in life. I think that the lesson means that you should go expierence the beauty in the world and have fun while filling out your desires, but you need to remember where you came from and want you want to do in life and remember what will help you through you through your own personal legend or journey throught the world. I aslo agree with Gina that the story is relevant to me and everyone in the world. I think it is true about what Gina said on how you must keep the spoon fuul and waht kepping the spoon full is and how we should try to see the beauty of the world. I agree with the rest of of what blog.

  4. I agree with Gina that the oil is what we must keep in mind while we go along our journey. The castle repreasents the world and how we must look around to fully discover the beauty. We must keep the two balanced otherwise things go astray. This relates to us because we all need to keep things in mind while we go on our journey.

  5. I like your metaphor about how the oil is what we need to close to us and how we need to see other things while we need to keep an eye on the things that are close. I also think that when you mention that the castle is the worlds beauty, i gives a good image. I think your post was well written
