The King of Salem tells the boy the story so he remembers that just because he going to travel the world, he can't forget the purpose of his travels. The boy in the story took a tablespoon oil and took great care to not spill any as he wandered through the castle. When he returned the Kings asked if he saw anything. The boy said no he was focused on the oil. Santiago wanted to travel, so he did. He was so focused on his sheep though that he saw nothing. When the boy in the story went away to look around again he saw everything in the palace and was amazed. When he came back the King asked if he saw everything. The boy said yes, but he dropped all the oil. Santiago is now leaving for Egypt and seeing the marvels around. The King tells him beacuase the Santiago is going to explore the world, but he can't forget the drops of oil in the spoon, his Personal Ledgened.

I like that you compared the oil to the legend. Not a good thing to be focused on something that isnt useful (the oil.)

I think you are very right that the oil is symbolizing his personal ledgend. I think it is good that he looked around for once realizing what is around him, but he must now focus on his own ledgend. :)
ReplyDeletei liked it but you were focused too much on the oil. Although the king is try to tell him that he cant focus on both things and do all there is to do or keep all that he was givin; he has to do one or the other, his personal destiny or his sheep. But the post was too focused on the oil!
